2012 Vin Liastos Monemvasia-Malvasia, Monemvasia Winery Tsimbidi
Laconia, Greece
This is a remarkable Greek sweet wine with history, rarity and real emotional pull. Deep amber in the glass, it opens with dried apricot, fig, orange peel and raisin, followed by caramel, toasted nuts, coconut, honey and a gentle savoury spice. It is rich and intense, but not heavy; the brightness beneath the sweetness gives it lift, energy and balance.
On the palate, it is luscious, concentrated and beautifully poised, with layers of dried fruit, nut brittle, citrus peel and warm caramel carried by fine acidity and subtle tannic grip. The finish is long, golden and deeply satisfying. A superb dessert wine for anyone who loves Tokaji, Vin Santo or great sweet wines with complexity, age and a story worth telling.

Monemvasia Winery Tsimbidi has brought one of Greece’s great historic wines back to life. Malvasia was once famed across medieval Europe, named after the castle town of Monemvasia, before disappearing for centuries. This Vin Liastos is made in its birthplace from local Greek varieties, reviving that lost tradition in a bottle that feels both ancient and beautifully alive.
