2011 Home Ranch Zinfandel, Seghesio Family Vineyards
Sonoma Valley, California, United States
‘Home Ranch’ is one of California’s most revered expressions of premium Zinfandel.
Mature, plush and full of old-vine Sonoma character, this Home Ranch Zinfandel opens with black cherry, raspberry and brambly dark fruit, wrapped in notes of mocha, sweet spice, toasted oak and a savoury hint of smoke. The palate is generous and softly textured, with ripe fruit, mellow tannins and a warm, rounded finish that feels both comforting and quietly distinguished.
There is still plenty of richness here, but age has brought a softer, more settled mood. The fruit feels darker and more savoury now, with gentle spice and a touch of earth giving depth to its classic Alexander Valley warmth. It is a bottle for slow cooking, good glasses and the pleasure of a California classic with time behind it.
For when: the table wants something mature, generous and deeply comforting.
Pairs with: grilled ribs, roast pork, burgers, lamb shoulder, smoky aubergine, beef chilli, aged cheddar or barbecue vegetables.
If this wine were...: an old wooden table in Sonoma, polished by five generations of family dinners.
Seghesio Family Vineyards is one of Sonoma’s historic Zinfandel names, founded in Healdsburg after Italian immigrant Edoardo Seghesio planted vines in Alexander Valley in 1895. Home Ranch comes from that founding vineyard, a seven-acre old-vine field blend of head-trained vines that has become the estate’s flagship expression of Zinfandel. It carries the family’s long connection to Sonoma in a style that feels generous, rooted and unmistakably Californian.
