2010 Pinot Noir, Kayena Vineyard, Tamar Ridge
Tasmania, Australia
Tamar Ridge’s 2010 Kayena Vineyard Pinot Noir is a mature Tasmanian Pinot with a cool-climate soul and a gently savoury edge. Expect dark cherry, red plum, anise, dried herbs, cedar and spice, with bottle age bringing softer notes of forest floor, tea leaf and old wood. It feels settled and graceful now, more about texture and nuance than primary fruit.
On the palate, it is light to medium-bodied, with fine-grained tannins and a long, spicy finish. The fruit has mellowed into a savoury red-fruited core, while the Tamar Valley freshness keeps the wine from feeling lively.
For when
A quiet dinner needs mature Pinot with softness, perfume and a little Tasmanian cool.
Pairs with
Roast duck, pork loin, mushroom risotto, grilled salmon, game birds, beetroot tart, lentils with herbs or washed-rind cheese.
Tamar Ridge is one of Tasmania’s important Pinot Noir names, based around the Kayena Vineyard on the west bank of the Tamar River. First planted in the 1990s, the site has grown into a major cool-climate vineyard with a strong focus on Pinot Noir and notable clonal diversity. That mix of maritime influence, slow ripening and careful block selection gives Tamar Ridge its signature style: elegant, expressive and unmistakably Tasmanian.
