2024 Rose, Château La Mascaronne
Provence, France
Pale, poised and quietly luxurious, the 2024 Rosé from Château La Mascaronne feels like Provence with a little more depth and polish than usual. White peach, citrus and delicate red berry notes rise first, followed by a floral lift and a subtle saline edge that keeps everything bright and composed. The palate is supple and finely textured, with lovely purity of fruit, fresh acidity and a long, graceful finish that carries hints of stone fruit, soft spice and cool mineral freshness. This is rosé that charms immediately, but there is real substance beneath the elegance, making it feel every bit as suited to the table as to the terrace. The 2024 is an organic Côtes de Provence rosé from the estate’s vineyards at Le Luc, with a blend built around classic Provençal varieties including Grenache, Cinsault, Syrah and Rolle.
For when: lunch turns leisurely, the sun stays high, and one bottle somehow becomes two.
Pairs with: grilled prawns, niçoise salad, lobster rolls, or simply something salty under blue skies.
If this wine were a place: a shaded Provençal terrace, all pale stone, olive trees and a warm breeze drifting through.
Château La Mascaronne is an organic estate in the heart of Provence, in the village of Le Luc, with vineyards planted on clay-limestone soils at around 300 metres altitude. Since 2020, the property has been under the ownership of Michel Reybier, whose wider estate portfolio includes Cos d’Estournel, and the focus here is firmly on expressing the character of this elevated Provençal terroir with greater precision and refinement. That sense of site comes through beautifully in the rosé, which feels both classically Mediterranean and distinctly more serious than the category’s easygoing reputation might suggest.
