2024 Old Vine Pale Rosado, Garage Wine Company
Empedrado, Maule Valley, Chile
Pale Pulse
This is rosé with old-vine depth and red-wine intent. Made from Carignan and Mataró in Chile’s Maule Valley, it opens with pomegranate, wild strawberry, cranberry and sour cherry, followed by citrus peel, dried herbs and a little stony grip.
The palate is bright, savoury and mouthwatering, with crunchy red fruit, linear acidity and just enough texture to make it feel serious. It sits somewhere between rosé and chilled red, which is exactly the point: refreshing, food-hungry and full of old-vine character. Serve it lightly chilled and watch it disappear.
For when you want rosé with bite, texture and a little wildness.
Pairs with salmon, charcuterie, grilled prawns, spicy Thai food, tandoori chicken, pork belly, mezze, or anything involving smoke, salt or chilli.
Garage Wine Company is one of Chile’s most exciting small producers, founded by Pilar Miranda and Derek Mossman Knapp, later joined by Alvaro Peña and Ernesto Muller. Their work is focused on reviving old, often overlooked vineyards in Maule, using small lots, native yeasts and hands-on farming to make wines with real place and personality. Old Vine Pale comes from Truquilemu in Empedrado, described by the producer as one of the freshest corners of Maule’s Coastal Range, and is made from Carignan and Mataró farmed by hand and horse.
