2024 Negroamaro, A Mano

Puglia, Italy

Puglia in its little black dress.

Rich, dark and quietly seductive, this Negroamaro is all about depth with poise. Crushed blackberries and ripe cherries lead the way, followed by warming spice and a gentle lift of floral perfume that keeps everything feeling elegant and alive. The palate is full and smooth, with plenty of southern Italian generosity, but there is a sleekness here too, a polished edge that carries the fruit and spice long through the finish. Bold, silky and seriously moreish.

For when you want a red with mood, warmth, and a little mystery.
Pairs with: Lamb koftas, slow-cooked tomato dishes or chargrilled mushrooms.
If this wine were: A late summer evening in Puglia, all golden light, great food and music drifting through the air.

A Mano was founded by Mark Shannon and Elvezia Sbalchiero, a Californian winemaker and northern Italian wine expert who fell in love with Puglia and made it their home. Their wines have helped shine a brighter light on the region’s native varieties through a modern, quality-led approach. This Negroamaro comes from a single 11-hectare vineyard in the heart of Salice Salentino, where 30 to 60-year-old vines grow in sandy soils under dry-farmed conditions. Carefully trained to protect the fruit from the southern sun, the vines produce a wine that captures both the richness and the refinement of this distinctive corner of Italy.

A Mano is the creation of Californian winemaker Mark Shannon and northern Italian wine marketing expert Elvezia Sbalchiero, who fell for Puglia and made it their winemaking home. Their story began with a visit to the region’s ancient Primitivo vineyards, and what was meant to be a short trip became the foundation of a producer that has helped redefine the grape’s reputation through a more polished, quality-led, modern style.

Working closely with growers and paying premium prices for exceptional fruit, A Mano has built its name on old-vine material, careful sourcing, and a belief that Primitivo can offer far more than simple power. Their wines capture the warmth and generosity of southern Italy, but with freshness, precision and balance, showing why A Mano has become one of the names most closely associated with the modern rise of Primitivo from Puglia.

Upon arrival at the cellars, the grapes were pressed, destemmed and cooled to 18°C, and the must was allowed to ferment at its own pace. After racking in mid-November, the wine remained in an underground cement tank where the temperature did not exceed 10°C until bottling.
