2024 Bardolino Chiaretto Rosé, Monte del Frà

Bardolino, Veneto, Italy

Lake Garda Blush

Pale, delicate and effortlessly charming, this is Italian rosé with a lovely sense of freshness and ease. White flowers, redcurrant and wild berries rise first, followed by nectarine, apricot and a gentle lift of white pepper that gives the wine a little extra energy. The palate is dry, crisp and beautifully fluent, with bright red fruit, a touch of citrus and a clean, elegant finish that feels made for warm afternoons and simple, sunlit food. It is light on its feet, quietly polished and wonderfully drinkable, the sort of rosé that disappears with suspicious speed.

For when: lunch drifts into the afternoon, and nobody is checking the time.
Pairs with: grilled prawns, tomato salads, charcuterie, or something salty by the water.
If this wine were a place: a shaded table near Lake Garda, with pale stone, bright light and a soft breeze off the water.

Monte del Frà is one of the key names around Lake Garda, known for wines that combine drinkability with real regional character. Their Bardolino Chiaretto is built from the traditional local grapes of the area, chiefly Corvina with Rondinella and Molinara, and captures that lovely Garda balance of delicacy, freshness and gentle fruit. It is a rosé that feels unmistakably northern Italian, all elegance, ease and quiet charm.

Monte del Frà is one of Veneto’s most reliable and quietly impressive family estates, based in Custoza on the morainic hills near Lake Garda. The property’s roots stretch back centuries, but the modern winery began in 1958, when the Bonomo family started farming the land and gradually built it into one of the key names of the region. Today, still family-run, Monte del Frà is known for wines that combine clarity, freshness and regional identity, from the delicacy of Bardolino and Chiaretto to the textured whites of Custoza and the deeper reds of Valpolicella.

What makes Monte del Frà so compelling is the way it captures the character of this part of Veneto, where Lake Garda’s moderating influence, rolling glacial hills and varied soils help shape wines with both charm and precision. The estate has expanded carefully over the years, including into Valpolicella Classico, but the signature remains the same: polished, expressive wines rooted in place and made with the confidence of a family that knows its land intimately.

Traditional white wine vinification with a short cold maceration
in contact with the skins for 24 hours. This is followed by
separation of the juice equal to 20% of the crushed grapes and static decantation. Long fermentation in steel at controlled
temperature.
