2023 Parcelario Malbec, Zorzal
Gualtallary, Valle de Uco, Mendoza, Argentina
This is Malbec redefined at altitude. The 2023 Parcelario opens with a deep, almost inky hue, but the aromatics are anything but heavy. Instead, it speaks in layers of dark mountain fruit, crushed blackberry and plum skin, laced with wild herbs, graphite and a chalky, stony edge that feels unmistakably Gualtallary. The mineral character leads, the fruit follows, everything held in poised tension.
On the palate, it is fluid, fine and precise. There is nerve here, a quiet energy that runs through the core, carrying dark fruit, subtle spice and that distinctive calcium-rich grip. Twenty-five days of maceration give structure without excess, while ageing predominantly in concrete egg preserves clarity and purity. A touch of neutral French oak adds refinement rather than flavour. The finish is long, lifted and beautifully etched, fading slowly on stone, herb and cool earth.Â
For when you want Argentine depth without excess or sweetness.
Pairs with wood-fired steak, rosemary lamb, aged Manchego or dishes built on smoke and savoury detail.
Producer
Zorzal’s Parcelario range represents the pinnacle of their terroir-driven philosophy. Founded by the Michelini brothers in 2008, the winery sits at 1,350 metres in Gualtallary at the foot of the Tupungato Volcano. These wines are crafted from single high-altitude parcels and reflect a decade-long pursuit of precision and ecological viticulture. Through native fermentations, extended maceration and élevage centred on concrete eggs with minimal oak influence, Zorzal aims to capture not only soil and climate but the landscape and spirit of each vintage. The result is a refined, forward-thinking expression of modern Argentina at its highest level.
