2022 Barbera d'Alba 'Vigna Scarrone' DOCG, Vietti
Barbera d'Alba, Piedmont, Italy
The Ruby Heart of Castiglione
This is Barbera with depth, polish and a glorious pulse of dark fruit. It opens with ripe black cherry, red plum, blackberry and violet, then gathers richer notes of vanilla, liquorice, mocha, sweet spice and new leather. There is real generosity here, but it never feels heavy, thanks to that bright Barbera acidity keeping everything vivid and alive.
The palate is full, supple and beautifully charged, with layers of black cherry, damson, cocoa, pepper and polished oak. The tannins are smooth and rounded, the fruit is plush, and the finish carries a lovely savoury freshness. It feels both luxurious and energetic, like Piemonte dressed for dinner but still ready to dance.
For when you want Italian red with colour, confidence and table-filling warmth.
Pairs with beef ragù, mushroom risotto, roast pork, lamb shoulder, truffle pasta, game, aged cheeses, or a properly rich tomato and sausage pasta.
If this wine were… a heartbeat, it would be the sound of a warm evening in the Langhe: quick with life, rich with colour and impossible not to follow.
Vietti is one of Piemonte’s great historic producers, based in Castiglione Falletto in the heart of the Langhe. With roots stretching back to the late 1800s, the estate is known for combining tradition, precision and a strong artistic identity, from its pioneering single-vineyard Barolos to its famous artist labels. Vietti has a rare ability to make wines that feel serious, soulful and deeply pleasurable, whether it is a grand cru Barolo or a beautifully expressive Barbera from a treasured Langhe site.
