2021 'Les Glacières' Côtes du Roussillon, Domaine Gardiés
Languedoc-Roussillon, France
Domaine Gardiés’ 2021 Les Glacières is a southern French white with a wonderfully cool pulse. A blend of Grenache Blanc and Gris, Roussanne and Macabeu, it opens with lemon peel, pear, white flowers, yellow apple, apricot and a fine smoky note. There is Mediterranean generosity here, but the wine’s real charm is its precision.
On the palate, it is textured, mineral and quietly powerful, with ripe citrus and stone fruit drawn tight by saline freshness and a chalky, almost icy line. The name feels perfectly judged: this is not a heavy Roussillon white, but something lifted, vertical and beautifully carved, finishing long with salt, smoke and white stone.
For when
A seafood lunch needs sunshine, freshness and a little southern French polish.
Pairs with
Grilled prawns, sea bass, scallops, crab linguine, roast chicken with lemon, fennel gratin, Comté or a courgette and goats’ cheese tart.
Domaine Gardiés is one of the impressive modern names of Roussillon, based around Espira-de-l’Agly and Vingrau, where the family works organically across dramatic clay-limestone and schist terroirs. Jean and Victor Gardiés craft wines with depth, purity and a clear sense of place, and Les Glacières captures a particularly graceful side of the estate: white Roussillon with freshness, texture and mineral poise.
