2021 Camartina, Querciabella
Tuscany, Italy
The Tuscan Crown in Velvet
Camartina is Super Tuscan royalty with its feet still firmly in Chianti Classico soil. A blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Sangiovese, it opens with blackcurrant, blackberry, dried cherry and plum, before unfurling into violet, graphite, leather, mocha, sweet tobacco and Mediterranean herbs. There is polish here, but not gloss for the sake of it. Everything feels measured, tailored and quietly expensive.
The palate is deep, structured and beautifully coiled, with dark fruit, savoury spice and fine-grained tannins moving in step. Cabernet brings the frame, Sangiovese brings the pulse, and the result is both powerful and lifted. It is still youthful, with the architecture to age gracefully, but already shows that classic Querciabella combination of intensity, freshness and restraint.
For when you want a Super Tuscan with pedigree, polish and a very long future.
Pairs with bistecca alla Fiorentina, beef Wellington, roast lamb, wild mushroom pappardelle, aubergine parmigiana, or aged pecorino.
If this wine were… a room, it would be a candlelit palazzo library: velvet chairs, old books, polished wood and one perfectly poured glass.
Querciabella is one of Tuscany’s benchmark estates, founded in 1974 and now celebrated for wines that combine Super Tuscan ambition with purity, precision and a deeply progressive approach to farming. Camartina has been the estate’s signature Super Tuscan since 1981, produced only in the best vintages from organically farmed, plant-based biodynamic vineyards in Ruffoli, Greve in Chianti. With Cabernet Sauvignon providing structure and depth, and Sangiovese bringing Tuscan energy and lift, Camartina remains one of Querciabella’s great statements of elegance, longevity and quiet excellence.
