2020 Grande Reserve, Château Oumsiyat
Bekaa Valley, Lebanon
The Bekaa Valley Grand Red
This is Lebanese red wine with richness, structure and a warm mountain glow. A blend of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah, it opens with ripe red plum, black cherry, blackberry and cassis, followed by sweet spice, cedar, dark chocolate, earth and a touch of pepper. It is generous and full, but the Bekaa Valley altitude gives it freshness and shape.
The palate is robust, savoury and smooth, with ripe fruit, warm spice and rounded tannins leading into a long, satisfying finish. It feels plush without being soft, with enough structure from Cabernet and Syrah to balance the Merlot’s velvet fruit.
For when you want a Lebanese red with depth, polish and dinner-table warmth.
Pairs with roast lamb, beef kofta, grilled steak, mushroom ragù, aubergine with spices, hard cheeses, or a rich Sunday roast.
If this wine were… a view, it would be the Bekaa Valley at dusk, dark hills, warm stone and the last red light falling over the vines.
Château Oumsiyat is run by the Bou Sleiman family, whose wine heritage spans four generations. Joseph Bou Sleiman built a modern winery in Mtein, while the family’s vineyards sit high in the Bekaa Valley, between Mount Lebanon and the Anti-Lebanon Mountains. The estate combines Lebanese tradition with contemporary winemaking, producing generous, expressive wines with freshness from altitude and a distinctly Mediterranean soul.
