2020 Barolo Lazzarito DOCG, Vietti *Rehoboam- 5L*
Barolo, Piedmont, Italy
The Serralunga Lion in Rehoboam
This is Barolo with muscle, majesty and a deep Serralunga growl. In Rehoboam, Lazzarito becomes a bottle of real theatre, dark, commanding and built for a table that knows how to wait. It opens with black cherry, red plum, fig, violet and rose, before deeper notes of tar, liquorice, tobacco, dried herbs, spice and crushed stone begin to gather.
The palate is powerful, structured and impressively long, with Nebbiolo’s firm tannins carrying dark fruit, orange peel, savoury spice and mineral depth. There is intensity here, but also polish, with freshness cutting through the richness and giving the wine shape. In large format, it feels made for patience, ceremony and the kind of occasion that deserves a little silence when the wine is poured.
For when the bottle needs presence, power and serious Barolo authority.
Pairs with braised beef, roast game, truffle risotto, wild mushroom tajarin, slow-cooked lamb, aged parmesan, or a long winter lunch with proper conversation.
If this wine were… a creature, it would be a lion carved from dark stone, watching over the vineyards of Serralunga as the evening turns gold.
Vietti is one of Piemonte’s great historic producers, based in Castiglione Falletto and admired for its pioneering role in single-vineyard Barolo. Its Lazzarito comes from the celebrated Serralunga d’Alba cru, a vineyard known for structure, depth and mineral force, and Vietti captures that character with its usual blend of tradition, precision and artistry. The estate remains one of the defining names of the Langhe, producing wines that feel both collectible and deeply expressive.
