2020 Barolo Lazzarito DOCG, Vietti *Jeroboam*
Barolo, Piedmont, Italy
The Serralunga Lion in Jeroboam
This is Barolo with scale, muscle and a deep Serralunga growl. In Jeroboam, Lazzarito becomes a true centrepiece: dark, commanding and built for the kind of table that knows how to wait. It opens with black cherry, red plum, fig, rose and violet, before deeper notes of tar, liquorice, tobacco, wild herbs, spice and crushed stone begin to gather.
The palate is structured, intense and impressively long, with firm Nebbiolo tannins carrying dark fruit, orange peel, savoury spice and mineral depth. The 2020 vintage brings a little more generosity and warmth, while Lazzarito gives the wine its backbone, tension and serious ageing promise. In this format, it feels made for patience, ceremony and a memorable future table.
For when the bottle needs presence, power and true Barolo authority.
Pairs with braised beef, roast game, truffle risotto, wild mushroom tajarin, slow-cooked lamb, aged parmesan, or a long winter lunch with proper conversation.
If this wine were… a creature, it would be a lion carved from dark stone, watching over Serralunga as the evening turns gold.
Vietti is one of Piemonte’s great historic producers, based in Castiglione Falletto and admired for its pioneering role in single-vineyard Barolo. Its Lazzarito comes from the celebrated MGA vineyard in Serralunga d’Alba, an amphitheatre-shaped site with south-west exposure, limestone and clay-rich soils, and vines averaging around 42 years old. The wine captures the estate’s signature balance of tradition, precision, artistry and deep respect for the great crus of the Langhe.
