2013 La Mujer Cañón, Comando G

Perfumed, intense and beautifully lifted, La Mujer Cañón captures the thrilling, high-altitude side of Spanish Garnacha. Red cherry, wild strawberry and raspberry rise with notes of dried flowers, spice and a faintly herbal mountain freshness. With age, it has taken on a more savoury, autumnal tone, letting the fruit soften into something graceful, earthy and quietly dramatic.

The palate is supple and expressive, with silky texture, fine warmth and a mineral thread that speaks of granite, old vines and cool mountain air. It is Garnacha with both charm and conviction, generous enough to feel inviting, yet detailed enough to keep revealing new corners of itself with every glass.

Comando G is the pioneering Sierra de Gredos project of Daniel Gómez Jiménez-Landi and Fernando García, two winemakers who helped reshape the reputation of Spanish Garnacha. Their work has brought new attention to the old, high mountain vineyards around Gredos, where pale colour, perfume, freshness and granite minerality matter more than sheer power. La Mujer Cañón sits firmly in that story, a tiny-production wine from old vines with real drama and a powerful sense of place.
