2007 Beaune 1er Cru Champs Pimont Blanc , Domaine Jacques Prieur
Burgundy and Beaune, Burgundy, France
Domaine Jacques Prieur’s 2007 Beaune 1er Cru Champs-Pimont Blanc is fully mature and drinking with real grace. This is not a showy white Burgundy, but a beautifully evolved one, all golden orchard fruit, lemon curd, toasted hazelnut, buttered pastry, dried flowers and a fine seam of flint. Time has softened the edges, but the wine still has that quiet Beaune precision beneath its richness.
On the palate, it is beguiling and broad, with baked apple, pear, citrus peel, almond and savoury mineral notes lingering long after the glass has left your lips. There is richness here, certainly, but also lift, salinity and poise, giving the finish a lovely sense of length and calm authority. Serve cool rather than cold and let it unfold slowly.
For when
A special lunch needs a white Burgundy with maturity, texture and presence.
Pairs with
Roast chicken, scallops, turbot, lobster, mushroom tart, veal in cream sauce, Comté or baked cheese with truffle honey.
Champs-Pimont takes its name from “Les Champs au pied du Mont”, the fields at the foot of the mountain, a slope overlooking the outskirts of Beaune. Domaine Jacques Prieur is one of Burgundy’s great collectors of terroir, based in Meursault and blessed with an extraordinary range of Côte d’Or vineyards. Under the long influence of Nadine Gublin, the domaine has built a reputation for wines that combine polish, structure and a clear sense of place, making this mature premier cru a quietly impressive bottle from a serious Burgundy name.
