2017 Art Series Cabernet Sauvignon, Leeuwin Estate
Margaret River, Australia
Midnight Tailoring
Deep, poised, and quietly commanding, this is Cabernet with all the detail and gravitas you hope for from Margaret River’s top table. Blackcurrant, black cherry and plum open the nose, followed by cedar, graphite, tobacco and a cool touch of mint that gives the wine lift and precision. The palate is finely structured and beautifully composed, with dark fruit, savoury spice and a firm but polished tannic frame carrying everything forward. There is real concentration here, but it is never overblown, just sleek, layered and long, finishing with freshness, mineral detail and quiet authority.
For when: the table is set, the food is serious, and the bottle needs to hold the room.
Pairs with: roast lamb, beef fillet, venison, or hard cheeses with a little age.
If this wine were a place: a gravelly Margaret River slope at dusk, with the last warmth in the earth and cool ocean air beginning to move in.
Leeuwin Estate is one of Margaret River’s defining producers, and the Art Series Cabernet Sauvignon sits among the estate’s most important wines. The 2020 is built from fruit grown in the cooler inland Peppy Park area south of the main estate, and the style is very much Leeuwin at its best, combining structure, perfume and longevity with a distinctly maritime sense of freshness and finesse.

Notable Awards
97 points. “Wow. Silky smooth aromas of red berries, grey minerality (granite, graphite etc.) and breaths of oceans air
whispered about. The palate is exactly as the nose promises, elegant and refined. Length of flavour is where this
really kicks into gear, extending seamlessly across the palate, lingering and swirling in its profile. Beautiful, classical
cabernet from a cool vintage. What a pleasure this is.”
