2024 Grüner Veltliner Felix, Weingut Weszeli

Langenlois, Kamptal, Austria

Pepper Snap

This is Grüner Veltliner in its clean, bright, wonderfully Austrian form. From Kamptal, it opens with green pear, yellow apple, honeydew melon and lime, followed by white flowers, fresh herbs, white pepper and a crisp chalky mineral edge.

The palate is dry, lively and precise, with citrus, orchard fruit and a little savoury spice carried by bright acidity. There is a lovely crunch here, but also a gentle roundness through the middle that makes it feel complete. The finish is clean, peppery and mouthwatering, exactly the sort of white that makes food taste better.

For when you want a white with freshness, snap and proper alpine charm.
Pairs with schnitzel, roast chicken, asparagus, sushi, grilled prawns, goat’s cheese, herby salads, or pork with crackling.

Weingut Weszeli is based in Langenlois in Kamptal, one of Austria’s great regions for Grüner Veltliner and Riesling. The estate’s roots go back to 1679, and today it is shaped by a philosophy called Principle Terrafactum, focused on biodiversity, organic and biodynamic vineyard work, and the patient expression of soil and climate. Felix is 100% Grüner Veltliner, made as a pure, fresh and accessible expression of the estate’s style, with hand-picked fruit, careful selection and temperature-controlled fermentation preserving its bright fruit and mineral clarity.

Weingut Weszeli is based in Langenlois, in Austria’s Kamptal, one of the country’s great regions for Grüner Veltliner and Riesling. The estate works around 30 hectares of vineyards surrounding the town, with a winemaking tradition that dates back to 1679. Today, Davis Weszeli combines that long family knowledge with a modern, nature-led philosophy focused on purity, biodiversity and terroir expression.

At the heart of the estate is the Principle Terrafactum, Weszeli’s belief that the character of the wine is shaped by the living vineyard: its soils, climate, flora, fauna and careful human touch. Vineyard work is hands-on and low-intervention, with Grüner Veltliner and Riesling grown around Langenlois on soils including loess, gneiss and clay. The result is a style that captures Kamptal beautifully: bright, mineral, peppery, precise and full of energy.

What makes Weszeli so compelling is the balance between freshness and quiet seriousness. These are Austrian whites with snap and drinkability, but also texture, depth and a clear sense of place. From the bright, accessible Felix Grüner Veltliner to the more site-specific wines, Weszeli offers a brilliant snapshot of modern Kamptal: clean, expressive and effortlessly food-friendly.
