2024 Temjanika Luda Mara, Tikveš

Tikveš, Republic of North Macedonia

The Balkan Blossom White

This is Macedonian white wine with perfume, brightness and a lovely aromatic lift. Made from 100% Temjanika, it opens with elderflower, acacia, grape, lime and gooseberry, before notes of ripe citrus, green plum and a gentle mineral edge begin to appear. It is dry, pale and beautifully fresh, with the floral charm of an aromatic grape but enough crispness to keep it clean and lively.

The palate is light-bodied, crisp and refreshing, with citrus, green plum, floral notes and a bright, mouth-watering finish. There is a lovely balance between scent and snap here, making it feel both exotic and extremely easy to pour.

For when you want a white wine that feels fragrant, fresh and a little off the beaten path.
Pairs with grilled fish, prawns, mezze, feta salads, lemon chicken, courgette fritters, sushi, or lightly spiced vegetable dishes.
If this wine were… a breeze, it would be spring air moving through a Macedonian vineyard, carrying blossom, lime zest and warm stone.

Tikveš is one of North Macedonia’s defining wineries, with organised production dating back to 1885. Based in the Tikveš wine region, the estate works with native and regional grapes such as Temjanika, Vranec, Kratoshija and Smederevka, combining long Macedonian wine tradition with modern winemaking. The Luda Mara range takes its name from the Luda Mara River, which flows through the region and inspires a collection built around freshness, character and discovery.

Every wine tells a story about the synergy between the soil, sun, grapes and the country of its origin. The Tikveš Winery has been narrating the Republic of North Macedonia’s story as a winemaking country since 1885. However, the Republic of North Macedonia remains one of Europe’s last undiscovered wine countries, with a landscape of vineyards, mountains, lakes and rivers and a climate ideally suited to producing quality grapes. Located in the Tikveš region, the estate sustainably cultivates indigenous varieties such as Smederevka, Vranec and Kratoshija, combining tradition with modern winemaking technology to produce authentic and characterful wines.

The grapes were hand harvested at the end of August to early September and chilled for 24 hours at 6–7°C. Cold maceration took place in inert pneumatic presses for 4–6 hours before fermentation in stainless steel tanks at 12–13°C using selected yeasts. The wine was matured in stainless steel tanks for 3–6 months to preserve freshness and aromatic purity.
