2024 Sauvignon, Elena Walch
Trentino, Alto Adige, Italy
Mountain air in a glass.
This is Sauvignon with a little more polish and a lot more poise. Fragrant and lifted, it opens with gooseberry, elderflower and a touch of papaya, with fresh green herbs adding a cool, Alpine edge. The palate is juicy and bright, carried by crisp acidity and a lovely sense of precision, but there is softness here too, which makes it feel elegant rather than sharp. Fresh, expressive and quietly stylish, this is the kind of white that manages to be both refreshing and refined, with a finish that feels clean, inviting and effortlessly graceful.
For when: the sun is out, lunch is stretching on, and only something bright and beautiful will do.
Pairs with: grilled prawns, asparagus, herby chicken, goat’s cheese salads, or simple fish dishes.
If this wine were a person: impeccably turned out, charming without trying, and very at ease in the mountains.
Elena Walch is one of Alto Adige’s most respected names, known for wines that capture the region’s cool-climate purity and elegant sense of place. This Sauvignon reflects that beautifully, combining aromatic brightness with structure, freshness and a more refined expression than the variety often shows elsewhere. It is a lovely example of how Alto Adige can take a familiar grape and make it feel altogether more graceful.
