2024 Sauvignon Blanc, Main Divide by Pegasus Bay
North Canterbury, New Zealand
This is Sauvignon Blanc with a cool-climate pulse and a flash of mountain brightness. Pale lemon in the glass, it opens with grapefruit, passion fruit, lime and lemongrass, followed by jalapeño, citrus blossom, crushed thyme and a fine steely mineral edge. It has all the aromatic lift you want from Sauvignon Blanc, but with a little more savoury detail and North Canterbury restraint.
The palate is zesty, tightly coiled and energetic, with vibrant acidity driving citrus, tropical fruit and fresh herbs through to a long, mouthwatering finish. There is a clean mineral line beneath the fruit, giving the wine precision and shape rather than simple upfront exuberance. Bright, refreshing and beautifully cut, this is Sauvignon Blanc with both snap and seriousness.
For when you want Sauvignon Blanc with bite, brightness and a little alpine attitude.
Pairs with goat’s cheese, grilled prawns, ceviche, asparagus risotto, Thai herb salad, fish tacos, sushi, or lemon roast chicken.
If this wine were… a morning, it would be cold air over the Southern Alps, with sunlight just starting to hit the vines.
Pegasus Bay is one of North Canterbury’s benchmark family wineries, founded by Ivan and Christine Donaldson and still closely associated with expressive, site-driven wines from the region. Main Divide is its second label, named after the Southern Alps that form the backbone of New Zealand’s South Island, and the wines are designed to show the freshness, texture and regional character of carefully selected South Island vineyards. The 2024 Sauvignon Blanc comes from Pegasus Bay’s Te Hau vineyard on Georges Road and a local North Canterbury grower, with the fruit taken to around 23 brix to add richness while retaining the wine’s vivid acidity and mineral drive.
