2025 Malagousia, Ktima Gerovassiliou
Epanomi, Greece
Aegean Blossom
Fragrant, luminous and full of Mediterranean ease, the 2025 Malagousia is one of those whites that feels generous from the first swirl yet never loses its line. White pear, peach and lemon zest lead the way, followed by floral notes, a flicker of spice and that lovely flinty mineral edge that gives the wine both lift and shape. The palate is opulent but beautifully balanced, with ripe stone fruit and citrus wrapped around a mouthwatering core of freshness. There is softness here, certainly, but also real precision, and the finish carries on with a savoury, spicy, mineral note that makes the whole wine feel polished rather than simply aromatic.
For when: lunch runs long, the table is full of seafood, and the sun is still high.
Pairs with: grilled prawns, crab, lemony chicken dishes, or salads with herbs and salty cheeses.
If this wine were a place: a whitewashed terrace above the sea, with citrus on the table and warm air moving through the olive trees.
Ktima Gerovassiliou is one of Greece’s benchmark estates, based in Epanomi, where sea breezes and fossil-rich sandy soils help shape wines of freshness and detail. Malagousia is especially significant here, as the estate notes that Vangelis Gerovassiliou played a central role in saving the variety from near extinction, and today it remains one of the winery’s defining expressions. That sense of revival, identity and place comes through beautifully in the glass.
