2024 Cuvée Membliarus Assyrtico, Château Oumsiyat
Bekaa Valley, Lebanon
The Bekaa Valley Silver Flame
This is Lebanese white wine with citrus, mountain freshness and a clean mineral spark. Made from Assyrtiko with a small touch of Sauvignon Blanc, it opens with lemon zest, grapefruit, white peach and blossom, before flint, spice and a salty, mouth-watering edge begin to appear. It is bright, floral and sharply refreshed by the altitude of the Bekaa Valley.
The palate is crisp, linear and full of energy, with citrus peel, green apple, white stone fruit and mineral bite running into a beautifully clean finish. There is Mediterranean sunshine here, but also mountain air, giving the wine a lovely balance of ripeness, lift and saline precision.
For when you want a white wine that feels fresh, unexpected and full of Lebanese character.
Pairs with grilled prawns, sea bass, calamari, lemon chicken, halloumi, mezze, goat’s cheese, courgette fritters, or anything with herbs, salt and citrus.
Château Oumsiyat is run by the Bou Sleiman family, whose wine heritage spans four generations. Joseph Bou Sleiman combines local tradition with modern winemaking from the family’s estate in the Bekaa Valley, where vineyards sit over 1,000 metres above sea level between Mount Lebanon and the Anti-Lebanon Mountains. Cuvée Membliarus takes its name from a Phoenician governor of Santorini, a nod to the Greek origins of Assyrtiko and its ancient Mediterranean journey.
