2025 Pinot Grigio, Elena Walch
Trentino, Alto Adige, Italy
Alpine Silk.
Pinot Grigio but not as we know it! Bright, poised and quietly luxurious, the 2025 Pinot Grigio from Elena Walch shows this often underestimated grape in a far more refined light. Aromas of ripe pear and orchard fruit rise first, followed by white pepper, a whisper of sage and that cool, mineral-saline edge that gives the wine its mountain freshness. The palate is crisp yet textural, with a lovely sense of weight through the middle balanced by bright acidity and a long, polished finish. There is clarity here, but also substance, making it feel less like a simple refresher and more like a properly elegant northern Italian white.
For when: lunch is outdoors, and the mountain air feels very far away, but the mood is just right.
Pairs with: grilled prawns, herby chicken, risotto with spring vegetables, or simply a cold bottle and something salty.
If this wine were a place: a sunlit terrace in Alto Adige, where the breeze smells faintly of herbs and stone.
Elena Walch is one of Alto Adige’s benchmark family estates and a leading force behind the region’s quality revolution, combining deep local roots with a more modern, terroir-driven vision. An architect by training, Elena Walch married into one of Alto Adige’s historic wine families and helped reshape the estate with a focus on site expression, precision and elegance. Today, the winery is run by her daughters, Julia and Karoline, continuing a family story that places vineyard character, sustainability and careful winemaking at the heart of every bottle.
