2023 Mtsvane, Vachnadziani Winery

Kakheti, Georgia

The Kakheti Green Gold

This is Georgian white wine with freshness, fragrance and a clean mountain-bright feel. Made from Mtsvane grown in Kakheti, it opens with green apple, pear, citrus and candied peel, before peach, apricot, fresh herbs and a gentle mineral note begin to appear. It is crisp, aromatic and beautifully direct, with that lovely Georgian balance of ancient grape and modern clarity.

The palate is dry, lively and refreshing, with lemon, apple, pear and stone fruit carried by bright acidity and a clean, lightly bitter citrus finish. There is enough perfume to make it distinctive, but the overall mood is precise, zesty and wonderfully easy to pour.

For when you want a white wine with freshness, discovery and a proper Kakheti accent.
Pairs with grilled fish, prawns, chicken salads, khachapuri, soft cheeses, mezze, lemony vegetables, or lightly spiced Asian dishes.
If this wine were… a colour, it would be green-gold morning light over Kakheti, cool at the edges and bright with citrus.

Vachnadziani Winery is one of Georgia’s historic producers, established in 1953 in Kakheti. The estate works across more than 1,000 hectares of vineyards, covering regions including Kakheti, Imereti, Racha and Lechkhumi, and cultivates a wide range of mostly indigenous varieties. Its aim is to preserve Georgia’s ancient wine culture while combining it with modern winery investment and precision.

Georgia is considered to be the ‘cradle of wine’, as 8,000 year-old indigenous Rkatsiteli grape seeds have been found in clay vessels. Vachnadziani was established in 1953 and is one of the oldest wineries in Georgia. During the Soviet years the vineyard fell into disrepair, but has since received significant investment. The aim is to preserve ancient wine culture while combining it with modern technology. With over 1,000 hectares of vineyard across Kakheti in eastern Georgia and Imereti, Racha and Lechkhumi in the west, Vachnadziani cultivates 25 vine varieties, the majority of which are indigenous, showcasing the character of this historic winemaking region.

The grapes were carefully sorted to ensure only the highest quality fruit was vinified. Fermentation took place in stainless steel tanks to preserve purity of fruit and varietal character, lasting two weeks at controlled temperatures of 16°C.
