2023 Dry Furmint, Chateau Dereszla
Tokaj, Hungary
The Tokaj Silver Thread
This is Hungarian white wine with brightness, precision and a lovely volcanic snap. Made entirely from Furmint, it opens with green apple, ripe pear, quince and lemon zest, before white peach, acacia blossom, subtle honey and a fine mineral edge begin to appear. It is crisp and elegant, but not thin, with Tokaj’s famous acidity giving the wine real shape and energy.
The palate is dry, lively and beautifully sculpted, with citrus, orchard fruit and gentle spice running into a clean, stony finish. There is a quiet richness in the background, but the main impression is freshness, clarity and lift. It feels like Chablis with a Hungarian accent: precise, mineral, bright and quietly compelling.
For when you want a white wine with freshness, history and a little volcanic electricity.
Pairs with grilled fish, roast chicken, prawns, sushi, goat’s cheese, lemony salads, asparagus, or spicy Asian dishes.
If this wine were… a thread, it would be silver running through Tokaj stone, cool, bright and catching the light with every turn.
Château Dereszla sits in the heart of Hungary’s historic Tokaj region, with origins reaching back to the 18th century. The estate owns around 27 hectares across some of the area’s best vineyard sites, where varied soils help shape the complexity of its wines. Its historic cellars were renovated in 2003 and fitted with modern winemaking technology, allowing Dereszla to bring precision and freshness to Tokaj’s great traditional grapes.
