2023 Amphora Chardonnay 'Rosie's Block', Neudorf

Nelson, New Zealand

Clay & Current”

This is Chardonnay released from expectation. Fermented entirely in clay amphora, the 2023 Rosie’s Block feels both ancient and strikingly modern. The nose is all rockpool minerality, flint and lemon zest, with layers of white peach and subtle orchard fruit sitting just beneath. There is depth here, but it is wrapped in freshness, concentration held in perfect poise.

On the palate, it plays with tension in the most beautiful way. Fruit richness meets stony precision. A weighty, textural core flows alongside bright, driving acidity. Ten months on full lees in amphora builds shape and quiet creaminess, while full natural malolactic brings harmony without heaviness. The result is curvaceous yet agile, powerful yet fluid. It finishes long and mineral, with citrus oil, clay and a clean, savoury edge lingering delicately.

This is Chardonnay unshackled, confident, graceful and quietly captivating.

For when you want something that challenges your idea of Chardonnay.
Pairs with grilled seafood, roast chicken with herbs, miso butter dishes or simply a long conversation.
If this wine were a movement, it would be contemporary dance, expressive, balanced and completely free.

Producer
Neudorf was founded in 1978 by Tim and Judy Finn, pioneers of the Nelson wine industry and early advocates of sustainable winegrowing in New Zealand. Rosie’s Block, purchased in 1999 and named after their daughter, sits on north-facing Moutere clay and gravel soils overlooking the Home Vineyard. Organically cultivated and hand-harvested, this site is bordered by native bush and wetlands that enhance biodiversity and balance. Today Rosie Finn, alongside winemaker Todd Stevens and viticulturalist Stef Brockley, continues the family’s commitment to precision, sustainability and wines that reflect their landscape with clarity and integrity.

Founded by Tim and Judy Finn (now retired) in 1978 who were pioneers of the Nelson wine industry and Tim Finn was a founding member of Sustainable Winegrowing NZ.

The vineyard is dry-farmed organically on north facing Moutere gravels, and their ethos of minimal intervention extends into the winery.

Their daughter Rosie Finn carries on the family tradition in the role of Sales & Marketing/Director together with winemaker/GM Todd Stevens and viticulturalist Stef Brockley.

Neudorf is regarded as one of the country’s top small wineries with an enviable reputation for Chardonnay and Pinot Noir.

The focus is on sustainability with the winery run on solar power aided by the fact that Nelson has some of the longest sunshine hours in New Zealand. All estate owned blocks are organically certified and the old vines are dry farmed.
