2024 Estate Sauvignon Blanc, Lomond Wines
Western Cape, South Africa
This is Sauvignon Blanc with Atlantic breeze in its hair and Cape sunshine in its bones. From the cool coastal vineyards of Cape Agulhas, it opens with white peach, lime, Cape gooseberry and passion fruit, followed by citrus peel, blackcurrant leaf, wild fynbos and a clean mineral edge. It is bright and aromatic, but not shrill. There is fruit, freshness and a lovely sense of coastal restraint.
The palate is crisp, pure and mouthwatering, with zesty citrus and white stone fruit carried by cool-climate acidity. Six months on fine lees adds a little texture and depth, giving the wine more shape than a simple summer white, while the finish stays dry, mineral and beautifully refreshing. This is South African Sauvignon Blanc at its most useful: vibrant, elegant and ready for seafood, sunshine and a second glass.
For when you want Sauvignon Blanc with freshness, clarity and a proper sea-breeze finish.
Pairs with grilled prawns, oysters, goat’s cheese, asparagus tart, fish tacos, lemon roast chicken, sushi, or salty chips by the coast.
If this wine were… a view, it would be whitecaps flashing beyond the vineyards at the southern tip of Africa.
Lomond is one of South Africa’s most distinctive cool-climate coastal estates, set near Gansbaai in the Cape Agulhas appellation, close to the southernmost tip of Africa. The estate’s Sauvignon Blanc thrives in sea-cooled conditions, where slower ripening helps build concentration while preserving freshness. For the 2024 Estate Sauvignon Blanc, Lomond notes 20 to 25-year-old vines, a mosaic of soil types, separate harvesting and vinification by soil batch, and six months on fine lees for texture and depth. The result is a pure expression of Cape Agulhas: bright fruit, coastal minerality, fynbos lift and beautifully balanced freshness.
