2021 White Label Chardonnay, Petaluma
Adelaide Hills, Australia
Citrus Cream
This is Adelaide Hills Chardonnay in its bright, modern, beautifully useful form. It opens with white peach, melon, grapefruit and lemon zest, followed by ripe apple, soft cream, subtle toast and a faint struck-match savouriness. The fruit is fresh and generous, but the cool-climate acidity keeps everything neatly pulled into shape.
The palate is medium-bodied, creamy and refreshing, with stone fruit, citrus and melon carried by crisp acidity and gentle oak texture. Fermentation in a mix of French oak barriques, hogsheads and stainless steel gives the wine polish without excess, while partial malolactic fermentation adds a little roundness. It is smooth, lively and very easy to love, the kind of Chardonnay that works as well with roast chicken as it does with a quiet glass before dinner.
For when you want Chardonnay with freshness, creaminess and no heavy-handed drama.
Pairs with roast chicken, seafood pasta, grilled prawns, creamy mushroom risotto, pork schnitzel, Caesar salad, or Comté.
If this wine were… a texture, it would be lemon silk over cool stone.
Petaluma is one of Australia’s modern classics, founded in 1976 on the belief that great wine starts with matching the right grape to the right region. White Label Chardonnay shows the most approachable side of that philosophy, drawing on Adelaide Hills fruit to deliver a fresh, fruit-driven and textural cool-climate Chardonnay. The producer describes it as bright and fruit-forward, with subtle stone fruit, citrus, creaminess and ripe melon, while the style is designed to introduce the Petaluma house approach with balance, vibrancy and regional clarity.
