2021 Piccadilly Valley Chardonnay, Petaluma
Adelaide Hills, Australia
Golden Tension
This is one of Petaluma’s signature wines: a benchmark Adelaide Hills Chardonnay from the cool Piccadilly Valley, made with the estate’s classic balance of richness, precision and restraint. It opens with white peach, nectarine, pink grapefruit and Granny Smith apple, followed by lemon curd, blossom, cashew, subtle flint and beautifully integrated oak.
The palate is sleek, long and finely textured, with ripe stone fruit and citrus carried by bright acidity and a gentle creamy line from lees work and partial malolactic fermentation. There is polish, but no heaviness. The finish is vibrant, savoury and persistent, with grapefruit pith, mineral tension and a quiet sense of class.
For when you want Chardonnay with cool-climate finesse, texture and proper pedigree.
Pairs with roast chicken, scallops, crab linguine, pork belly, mushroom risotto, cauliflower cheese, or Comté.
If this wine were… a line, it would be gold leaf drawn across cool stone.
Petaluma is one of Australia’s modern classics, founded in 1976 on the belief that the best wines come from matching the right grape variety to the right region. Its “distinguished vineyards” philosophy takes it to Clare Valley for Riesling, Coonawarra for Cabernet and Merlot, and the Adelaide Hills for Chardonnay and Shiraz. Piccadilly Valley is central to that Chardonnay story, with Petaluma’s Yellow Label Chardonnay showing the cool-climate freshness, texture and site expression that made the estate such an influential name in Australian wine.
