2020 Art Series Chardonnay, Leeuwin Estate
Margaret River, Australia
Ocean Light
Radiant, layered and profoundly poised, this is Chardonnay with both power and grace in equal measure. Fresh pear, white peach and ripe citrus rise first, followed by jasmine, toasted nut, lemon curd and a cool mineral line that gives the wine its shape and composure. The palate is detailed and beautifully woven, carrying nectarine, pear and citrus through a fine thread of graphite, spice and saline freshness. There is real concentration here, but everything feels measured and precise, finishing long, luminous and quietly majestic.
For when: the food is elegant, the table is set, and the white needs to be every bit as memorable as the occasion.
Pairs with: lobster, turbot, roast chicken, or rich mushroom dishes with butter and thyme.
If this wine were a place: a sunlit stretch of Margaret River coastline, where warm light meets cool sea air and everything feels quietly electric.
Leeuwin Estate is one of Margaret River’s benchmark producers, and the Art Series Chardonnay is the wine that helped define its international reputation. The estate’s Chardonnay is fermented in French oak and matured in barrel for around 11 months, a patient élevage that helps build texture, complexity and longevity without losing the region’s hallmark freshness. In the 2020 vintage, that house style feels especially complete, generous, mineral and beautifully balanced.
