1995 Vin Santo del Chianti Classico, Fontodi
Chianti Classico, Tuscany, Italy
A rare mature Vin Santo from one of Chianti Classico’s most admired estates, now glowing with the depth only decades can bring. Amber, rich and quietly majestic, it opens with dried fig, date, raisin and candied orange, before unfolding into honey, toasted almond, caramel, sweet spice and a savoury flicker of old wood. The sweetness is mellow and enveloping, but Sangiovese gives it a darker, more structured soul, while Malvasia brings perfume and golden lift.
For when
You want a contemplative after-dinner bottle with history, rarity and real Tuscan grandeur.
Pairs with
Cantucci, almond biscotti, panforte, blue cheese, aged pecorino, fig tart, caramelised nuts or a quiet glass by itself.
Fontodi is one of the landmark estates of Chianti Classico, based in Panzano in the heart of the Conca d’Oro. Owned by the Manetti family since the late 1960s, it has become a benchmark for wines of depth, authenticity and unmistakable Tuscan character. Best known for its great Sangiovese reds, Fontodi’s Vin Santo shows another side of the estate, patient, traditional and full of quiet nobility.
