2022 Supersónico Garnacha, Bodegas Frontonio
Aragon, Spain
The Wild Child of Aragón.
Bright, pure and effortlessly expressive, the 2022 Supersónico Garnacha is a blast of high-altitude sunshine bottled with style. Aromas of wild strawberry, red cherry and blood orange leap from the glass, joined by notes of thyme, rose petal and a dusting of white pepper. The palate is supple yet taut with juicy red fruit wrapped around fine tannins and a streak of minerality that speaks of old vines and stony slopes. Silky, fresh and dangerously drinkable, it’s Garnacha that thrills with lift rather than weight.
For when: the evening calls for something vibrant and a little untamed.
Pairs with: charcuterie, grilled octopus, or slow-roasted aubergine with herbs.
If this wine were: a car, it’d be a vintage Alfa Romeo, fast, elegant, and just the right amount of wild.
Bodegas Frontonio, based in Épila, Aragón, is one of Spain’s most exciting young projects, led by Fernando Mora MW, Mario López, and Francisco Latasa, three friends united by a mission to resurrect forgotten vineyards and bring Garnacha back to glory. Working with century-old bush vines perched on limestone and slate slopes in the Valdejalón district, they practice organic viticulture and minimal intervention winemaking, often fermenting in whole bunches and ageing the wines in concrete or neutral oak.
The Supersónico is a vivid snapshot of this philosophy, pure Garnacha from high-altitude sites (up to 700m) where cooler nights preserve freshness and perfume. The 2022 vintage captures everything Frontonio stands for: brightness, balance, and the kind of energy that makes you fall in love with Spanish Garnacha all over again.

Hidden away in the rugged hills of Aragón, Bodegas Frontonio is one of Spain’s most dynamic and forward-thinking wine projects, a story of friendship, vision and the revival of forgotten vineyards. Founded by Fernando Mora MW, Mario López, and Francisco Latasa, the estate takes its name from Saint Frontonio, a local martyr whose head, legend says, floated upstream, a fitting metaphor for a winery that has built its reputation by swimming against the current.
Frontonio’s home is Valdejalón, a little-known subregion between Cariñena and Calatayud, where century-old bush vines of Garnacha cling to limestone, schist and slate slopes at altitudes up to 700 metres. Here, Mora and his team work parcel by parcel, farming organically and harvesting by hand to protect the purity of the fruit. In their semi-underground 18th-century winery, they favour wild fermentations, whole-bunch pressing, and gentle ageing in concrete and large old oak - methods designed to reveal, not obscure, the personality of each vineyard.
The result is a range of wines that feel both timeless and utterly new: expressive, finely textured, and brimming with energy. Whether it’s the joyful Supersónico or the more contemplative Microcosmico and El Jardín de las Iguales, every bottle carries Frontonio’s signature - elegance born from altitude, honesty born from restraint. In a world of noise, these are wines that speak quietly but leave a lasting echo.
