Aromas of wild strawberry, red cherry and blood orange leap from the glass, joined by notes of thyme, rose petal and a dusting of white pepper. The palate is supple yet taut with juicy red fruit wrapped around fine tannins and a streak of minerality that speaks of old vines and stony slopes. Silky, fresh and dangerously drinkable, it’s Garnacha that thrills with lift rather than weight.

Bodegas Frontonio, based in Épila, Aragón, is one of Spain’s most exciting young projects, led by Fernando Mora MW, Mario López, and Francisco Latasa, three friends united by a mission to resurrect forgotten vineyards and bring Garnacha back to glory. Working with century-old bush vines perched on limestone and slate slopes in the Valdejalón district, they practice organic viticulture and minimal intervention winemaking, often fermenting in whole bunches and ageing the wines in concrete or neutral oak.

The Supersónico is a vivid snapshot of this philosophy, pure Garnacha from high-altitude sites (up to 700m) where cooler nights preserve freshness and perfume. The 2022 vintage captures everything Frontonio stands for: brightness, balance, and the kind of energy that makes you fall in love with Spanish Garnacha all over again.
