2024 Cueva de Lobos Rosé, Bodegas Javier San Pedro
Rioja, Spain
The Rioja Pink Wink
This is Rioja rosé with its sleeves rolled up and its sunglasses firmly on. Made from Tempranillo, it is bright, juicy and joyfully uncomplicated, all wild strawberry, raspberry, watermelon and citrus peel, with a little floral lift and a fresh, herbal edge. The palate is crisp, dry and energetic, with red berry fruit, lively acidity and a clean, zesty finish that keeps everything feeling wonderfully moreish.
It is the sort of rosé that does not need a grand occasion, just a cold glass, a little sunshine and something salty within reach.
For when: the first glass turns into “shall we open another?”
Pairs with: tapas, grilled prawns, charcuterie, tomato salads, chicken skewers or a lazy Sunday lunch.
If this wine were a Spanish summer playlist, it would be all rhythm, colour and easy charm.
Bodegas Javier San Pedro is based in Laguardia, in the heart of Rioja Alavesa, where Javier San Pedro Ortega represents a new generation of Rioja winemaking. After growing up in a family of winemakers, he launched his own project in 2013 with a clear aim: to make wines with freshness, personality and a more contemporary feel. The Cueva de Lobos range captures that spirit perfectly, expressive, modern and made for pleasure, while still carrying the unmistakable charm of Rioja’s Tempranillo country.
