2023 Côtes du Rhône 'Le Temps Est Venu' Rouge, Stéphane Ogier

Rhône Valley, France

Perched above the Rhône River in Ampuis, Domaine Stéphane Ogier has risen to international acclaim as one of the most dynamic estates in the northern Rhône. Known for elevating Côte-Rôtie to new heights, Ogier brings a Burgundian sensitivity to terroir and a precise, modern approach to every wine he crafts. In recent years, his work in the southern Rhône has been just as compelling, focusing on wines that express brightness, balance, and drinkability without sacrificing complexity.

In the glass,  the 2023 Temps Est Venu greets the nose with ripe blackberry, black raspberry, and loganberry, intertwined with violet, clove, rose petal, and black pepper notes. The palate is generous yet refined, featuring juicy red and black fruits layered atop silky tannins and uplifted by peppery garrigue and wild herbs. Vibrant acidity keeps the finish fresh and lingering, long, savoury, and beautifully balanced.

Domaine Stéphane Ogier is one of the most acclaimed and dynamic wine estates in the Rhône Valley, based in Ampuis, the historic heart of Côte-Rôtie. With a legacy rooted in family tradition, Stéphane Ogier took over the domaine from his father Michel in 1998 and has since transformed it into one of the leading names in the northern Rhône. His wines are celebrated for their finesse, elegance, and precision, qualities that reflect both his Burgundian training and deep respect for terroir.
Under Stéphane’s leadership, the domaine has expanded its vineyard holdings across the steep, schist-laced slopes of Côte-Rôtie, as well as into neighboring appellations such as Condrieu, Saint-Joseph, and more recently, the southern Rhône, where he produces a range of approachable yet expressive wines under the “Le Temps Est Venu” label. His approach blends meticulous vineyard work, minimal intervention, and a drive to capture the individual character of each parcel and vintage.
From his prestigious La Belle Hélène and Lancement bottlings to his more accessible cuvées, Stéphane Ogier’s wines are known for their purity, lifted aromatics, and refined structure. Today, he is widely regarded as one of the most exciting winemakers in France, continuing to push the boundaries of Rhône winemaking while staying rooted in authenticity and tradition.

Grapes are hand-harvested, carefully sorted, fermented with native yeasts (often whole-bunch), and aged typically for 10 months in concrete, delivering a wine with both purity and substance.
