2022 ‘Carra’ Pic Saint-Loup, Château de Lascaux
Languedoc-Roussillon, France
Garrigue Stone
Château de Lascaux’s 2022 Carra is classic Pic Saint-Loup: dark, fragrant and full of southern French character, but with a freshness that keeps the wine beautifully poised. Syrah leads the way with blackcurrant, blackberry, violet, liquorice and black pepper, while Grenache and Mourvèdre add red fruit, wild herbs, black olive and a savoury, smoky edge.
On the palate, it is generous and expressive, with supple tannins, ripe black fruit and a lovely garrigue lift. The 2022 vintage brings warmth and spice, but the wine never feels heavy. Instead, it finishes with pepper, cade, black olive and a clean limestone freshness that makes it feel both satisfying and sharply defined.

A roast lamb dinner needs something sunlit, savoury and quietly serious.

Rack of lamb with rosemary, lamb tagine, grilled sausages, beef stew, ratatouille, Provençal vegetables, mushroom dishes, tapas or aged hard cheeses
Château de Lascaux is one of Pic Saint-Loup’s most reliable names, rooted in the wild, limestone-rich landscape north of Montpellier. The Cavalier family has farmed here for generations, with Jean-Benoît Cavalier guiding the estate towards organic and biodynamic viticulture. Carra takes its name from an old word linked to stone and garrigue, a fitting tribute to the calcareous soils and aromatic scrubland that shape this confident, deeply regional red.
