The son of legendary sweet-wine pioneer Willi Opitz, Michael has charted his own path, creating a range of organically farmed, low-intervention wines that capture the character of Burgenland in its purest form.

His estate, Weingut Michael Opitz, sits in the heart of the Seewinkel, a region shaped by its reed-fringed lakes, sandy soils and dry climate that encourage expressive, sun-kissed fruit. Michael farms organically and works with solar energy, minimal water use, and natural biodiversity to maintain the delicate balance between vineyard and environment. In the cellar, his approach is equally gentle: spontaneous fermentations, little to no fining or filtration, and minimal sulphur additions, resulting in wines that are alive, authentic and deeply drinkable.
