2016 Estate Pinot Noir, Paringa Estate *Magnum*
Mornington Peninsula, Australia
Paringa Estate’s 2016 Estate Pinot Noir in magnum is mature Mornington Peninsula Pinot with real presence. The vintage gave low yields and impressive concentration, and the larger format has helped the wine evolve slowly and gracefully. Expect lifted red cherry, dark cherry, raspberry, strawberry and violet, with layers of cedar, spice, anise, forest floor and savoury oak now settling beautifully into the fruit.
On the palate, it is silky, textural and finely held, with ripe red and black fruit framed by bright acidity and soft, polished tannins. There is depth here, but also poise, the kind of balance that makes mature Pinot feel effortless rather than fragile. The magnum format adds a sense of occasion, making this a superb bottle for the table now, with a gentle decant and a little time in the glass.
For when
A dinner party needs a bottle with age, scale and quiet Mornington glamour.
Pairs with
Roast duck, pork belly, lamb rump, mushroom risotto, game birds, grilled salmon, beetroot tart or soft washed-rind cheese.
Paringa Estate is one of the benchmark names of the Mornington Peninsula, founded by Lindsay McCall after he bought a derelict orchard in the 1980s and turned it into one of Australia’s most admired cool-climate estates. Pinot Noir is central to the Paringa story, shaped by Red Hill’s maritime air, volcanic clay soils and McCall’s instinct for wines that combine power with finesse. The 2016 Estate Pinot Noir shows why Paringa remains such a serious name: concentrated, polished, ageworthy and unmistakably Peninsula.
