2011 Peninsula Chardonnay, Paringa Estate
Mornington Peninsula, Australia
Coastal Cream
Paringa Estate’s 2011 Peninsula Chardonnay is mature Mornington Peninsula white Burgundy in spirit, with its cool-climate fruit now softened into a mellow, savoury phase. Expect grapefruit, lemon rind, peach and baked apple, layered with vanilla oak, clove, nutmeg and a gentle nutty, nougat-like richness from time in bottle.
On the palate, it is smooth, rounded and quietly creamy, with citrus freshness still giving shape to the wine. The fruit has settled beautifully into toast, spice and soft lemony acidity, finishing with calm length and a lovely sense of maturity. Drink now, served cool rather than cold, and let the bottle-aged texture do the talking.
For when
A roast chicken lunch needs something mature, comforting and quietly classy.
Pairs with
Roast chicken, pork with apple, scallops, salmon, lobster, mushroom tart, Comté, cauliflower cheese or creamy pasta with herbs.
Paringa Estate is one of the great names of the Mornington Peninsula, founded by Lindsay McCall after he bought an old north-facing orchard in Red Hill in the 1980s. The Peninsula series captures the region’s lively, fruit-led style, drawing on carefully selected vineyards across the area. This mature Chardonnay shows the appeal of Paringa’s cool maritime home: generous fruit, polished winemaking and the freshness to age with grace.
