2024 Merlot Rebel Sip!, Undurraga

Central Valley, Chile

The Velvet Sip

This is Chilean Merlot with softness, charm and plenty of easy red-fruited warmth. From Valle Central, it opens with fresh red cherry, plum and ripe raspberry, followed by subtle spice, a touch of herb and a smooth, fruit-led glow. It is approachable, balanced and made for relaxed drinking, with Undurraga’s Rebel Sip! range keeping things bright, modern and unfussy.

The palate is medium-bodied, smooth and generous, with cherry, plum and gentle spice carried by soft tannins and a rounded finish. There is no heaviness here, just ripe fruit, easy balance and the kind of supple texture that makes Merlot such a reliable table red.

For when you want a red that is smooth, simple to love and ready for midweek comfort.
Pairs with pasta bake, grilled red meats, cheeseburgers, roast chicken, mushroom pizza, lamb kofta, lasagne, or a generous cheeseboard.

Undurraga is one of Chile’s historic wineries, founded in 1885 and now working across important vineyard areas including Leyda, Cauquenes and Itata. The estate is certified by Sustainable Wines of Chile and is led by head winemaker Rafael Urrejola, whose work has helped shape Undurraga’s modern identity around site expression, sustainability and bright Chilean character.

Undurraga is one of Chile’s most prestigious wineries, consistently receiving high scores from top wine critics. Founded in 1885, Undurraga owns 1,350 hectares of estate vineyard in Chile’s premium wine-producing areas, such as Leyda, Cauquenes and Itata and is certified by Sustainable Wines of Chile.

Head winemaker Rafael Urrejola has spent a great deal of time researching and understanding the diversity of Chile’s vineyard sites; the result
is the emblematic ‘Terroir Hunter’ range.

Undurraga cultivates its vineyards with respect
for the environment and follow a philosophy of minimal intervention in the cellar to showcase the terroir. In 2023, Rafael became the first Chilean winemaker to be awarded ‘Red Winemaker of the Year 2023' by the prestigious International Wine Challenge (IWC).

The fruit was harvested into 500-kilo bins at optimal ripeness and sorted to ensure only the
healthy grapes were vinified. The grapes were destemmed and carefully crushed.
Fermentation took place with selected yeasts in stainless-steel vats, at controlled temperatures ranging between 27 and 28°C for seven days, with an additional four-day maceration allowing the flavours, colour and tannins to be gently extracted. The wine was vinified without the influence of oak, allowing the varietal characteristics and purity of fruit to shine through.
