2015 McKee Vineyard Grüner Veltliner, Tinpot Hut

Tinpot Hut’s 2015 McKee Vineyard Grüner Veltliner is a lovely Marlborough twist on Austria’s signature white grape. Now with bottle age, it moves from citrus snap into something broader and more savoury: lemon peel, green apple, white peach, honeysuckle, dried herbs and that classic flicker of white pepper.

On the palate, it is dry, textured and quietly generous, with bright acidity keeping the wine fresh while the fruit has settled into a more rounded, mineral style. There is a clean line of citrus, a little spice, a touch of almond and a long, dry finish that makes it wonderfully food-friendly. Drink now for its maturity, texture and crisp, peppery charm.

Tinpot Hut is the personal project of Fiona and Hamish Turner, rooted in Marlborough’s Blind River country and named after an old mustering hut from the region’s sheep-farming past. The wines carry that same sense of place: practical, bright, quietly distinctive and deeply connected to the landscape between the Wairau and Awatere Valleys.
