2021 SR Sauvignon Blanc Roditis, Dougos Winery
Thessaly, Greece
A wine of mountain clarity and Mediterranean charm, SR blends international finesse with native Greek character. Aromas of citrus blossom, lime zest and green apple mingle with subtle herbal notes and a cool mineral undercurrent. On the palate, it’s bright and textured, Sauvignon’s crisp drive meeting Roditis’s soft stone-fruit warmth. Extended lees ageing adds a gentle creaminess, while a streak of acidity keeps the finish pure, lifted, and refreshingly long.
For when: You want something clean, elegant, and quietly distinctive.
Pairs with: Grilled sea bass, lemon-herb chicken, or summer salads with feta and mint.
If this wine were: A breeze rolling off Mount Olympus, brisk, graceful, and full of light.
At the foothills of Mount Olympus, Thanos and Louiza Dougos craft small-production wines that blend precision with soul. Founded in 1991, the family estate works exclusively with organically farmed, dry-farmed vineyards rooted in iron-rich schist soils between 450 and 700 metres altitude. SR (Sauvignon Blanc / Roditis) is a reflection of that altitude and balance, the crisp aromatics of Sauvignon tempered by the Mediterranean ease of Roditis.

Nestled at the foothills of Mount Olympus, between myth and mountain air, Dougos Winery is one of Greece’s most distinctive family estates. Founded in 1991 by Thanos and Louiza Dougos, the winery marries scientific precision with a deep respect for tradition. Thanos, a renowned viticulturist, and Louiza, the winemaker, craft wines that reflect both the purity of their high-altitude vineyards and the quiet power of the Tempi Valley’s landscape.
The vineyards, planted between 450 and 700 metres, rest on iron-rich schist soils, poor in nutrients yet ideal for producing small, concentrated berries. These soils, combined with the cooling breezes descending from Mount Olympus, create wines of striking freshness, balance, and minerality. All farming is organic and dry-farmed, respecting the natural rhythms of the land and its biodiversity.
Dougos specialises in indigenous Greek varieties such as Xinomavro, Krasato, Stavroto, Limniona, and Assyrtiko, alongside select international grapes that thrive in this unique terroir. The wines are defined by elegance, restraint, and authenticity, crafted with minimal intervention and aged in lightly toasted oak to preserve varietal purity.
With production rarely exceeding 70,000 bottles per year, Dougos remains a true artisan winery, one that captures the essence of Olympus in every glass: wines of altitude, honesty, and quiet beauty.
