Evening Land Vineyards
Evening Land Vineyards is one of Oregon’s most compelling modern estates, focused almost entirely on the celebrated Seven Springs Estate in the Eola Amity Hills. First planted by the MacDonald family in the early 1980s, the site is defined by elevation, clay rich soils, and the cooling influence that sweeps through this part of the Willamette Valley, conditions that have made it one of the region’s benchmark sources for Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. Evening Land’s story took on added significance in 2007 with the arrival of Dominique Lafon as consulting winemaker, and the estate’s reputation was further cemented when La Source Pinot Noir was named No. 3 in Wine Spectator’s Top 100 in 2015, with 98 points, then the highest score the publication had given to an Oregon Pinot Noir.
Today, Evening Land works with a simple but exacting philosophy: great wine begins in the vineyard, and the role of the winery is to preserve rather than overpower what the site gives. Their focus on a single exceptional estate, combined with careful stewardship and minimal intervention, results in wines that feel finely tuned, expressive, and quietly confident. There is a precision to the range, but also a sense of calm, making Evening Land a producer that captures Oregon at its most articulate and refined.
