2020 Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve, Berton Vineyard
Coonawarra, Australia
This is classic Coonawarra Cabernet with a generous Australian glow. Ripe blackcurrant, blackberry and dark cherry lead the nose, followed by tobacco leaf, chocolate mint, eucalyptus, cedar spice and a touch of toasty oak. It has the unmistakable cassis-and-mint character that makes Coonawarra so loved, but with extra polish and depth from the Reserve treatment.
On the palate, it is full-bodied, smooth and richly flavoured, with dark berry fruit, soft but dense tannins and a long, warming finish. The structure is there, but it is not hard work; bottle age has helped the wine settle into a more rounded, savoury style. A brilliant choice for Cabernet drinkers who want depth, comfort and that cool Coonawarra edge in the same glass.
