VSOP Cognac, Frapin, 70cl (Gift Box)

Cognac, France

Orange & Embers

Warmly aromatic and full of character, Frapin VSOP unfolds with orange, dried flowers and discreet vanilla, drawing you into the glass with each swirl. Limousin oak lends a measured seasoning of spice, framing the fruit and allowing the delicate floral notes to emerge. There is depth here, but also a lovely clarity that keeps the aromas distinct.

Silky across the palate, it builds from mellow citrus into a long, gently warming finish of cinnamon and pepper. The texture has substance, with fruit and oak comfortably in balance and a satisfying persistence that rewards slow sipping. Enjoy it neat to explore its detail, or bring its orange-and-spice character to a classic Sidecar. Complete with a gift box, this is a considered present for a Cognac enthusiast and an appealing bottle to keep for yourself.

For when: A favourite armchair and an unhurried evening are all the occasion you need.

Pairs with: Duck liver pâté with orange chutney, smoked duck breast, mature Gouda, dark chocolate orange tart, cinnamon-poached pears or almond biscotti.

Frapin VSOP comes entirely from the family’s estate in Grande Champagne, Cognac’s Premier Cru. Growing the grapes, distilling the wine and ageing the eaux-de-vie in one place gives the house control from vineyard to finished blend, preserving the fragrant character of its own vineyards.

The Frapin family’s connection with the Charente dates to 1270, beginning with vine growing and developing into a long tradition of distilling. Based at Château Fontpinot in Segonzac, the family-owned house makes its Cognacs exclusively from grapes grown on its own estate.
Its 240 hectares of vineyards lie entirely within Grande Champagne, where chalk and limestone soils help regulate moisture and support the production of fragrant eaux-de-vie. Ugni Blanc thrives here, yielding the naturally acidic base wines that suit distillation and extended maturation.
Under cellar master Patrice Piveteau, Frapin combines traditional copper-pot distillation with careful cask ageing and blending. Distilling on the lees is central to the house style, building aromatic depth and texture. Its environmental work is recognised by Haute Valeur Environnementale Level 3 certification, with biodiversity and responsible vineyard management integral to the estate’s approach.

Made from 100% Ugni Blanc grown on Frapin’s Grande Champagne estate, the Cognac begins as a fermented white wine. The grapes are harvested and pressed, and the juice ferments in tanks before distillation.
Traditional double distillation takes place in Charentais copper pot stills. Frapin retains the fine lees during this process, using the fermentation sediment to contribute richness, complexity and length to the resulting eaux-de-vie.
Maturation takes place on the estate in Limousin oak barrels, developing the VSOP’s amber-orange colour and subtle vanilla character. The eaux-de-vie are blended to achieve the house’s balance of fruit, floral fragrance and spice, then bottled at 40%. It is ready to enjoy on release.
Alcohol: 40%. Bottle size: 70cl. Vegetarian and vegan.
