Château Fontpinot XO Cognac, Frapin, 70cl (Gift Box)

Cognac, France

The Autumn Château

Graceful and enticingly fragrant, Château Fontpinot XO opens with dried apricot and fig, followed by marzipan, hazelnut and a delicate suggestion of flowers. Nougat adds a confectionery note, while seasoned wood and hints of old Port give the bouquet a deeper register. Everything feels finely interwoven, with the fruit retaining its definition as the aromas develop in the glass.

The palate has a flowing, polished texture, carrying concentrated dried and candied fruit into a remarkably persistent finish. Nutty, savoury rancio notes bring the complexity of mature Cognac, balanced by a finesse that makes each sip feel measured and complete. Enjoy it neat, or add a drop of water to encourage the aromas to open. Already mature and ready to savour, this gift-boxed XO makes an elegant present for anyone who appreciates detail as much as depth.

For when: The cheese board deserves as much consideration as the main course.

Pairs with: Dark chocolate macarons, hazelnut praline mousse, apricot frangipane tart, aged Mimolette, Roquefort or roast duck with a reduced jus.

Château Fontpinot takes its name from Frapin’s family home in Segonzac. Its rare château designation reflects production carried out entirely on the estate, from the vineyard through to bottling. Long maturation in dry cellars is central to its identity, developing the aromatic precision and graceful character that distinguish this particular XO.

Frapin’s family history in the Charente stretches back to 1270, beginning with vine growing before evolving into a distinguished tradition of distilling. The house is based at Château Fontpinot in Segonzac, an eighteenth-century property at the heart of its vineyards. It remains family-owned, with every Cognac produced from estate-grown grapes.
The vineyard covers 240 hectares entirely within Grande Champagne, Cognac’s Premier Cru. Its chalk and limestone soils help regulate moisture, while the oceanic climate supports Ugni Blanc grown for naturally acidic base wines. The estate’s different cellar environments provide further scope to shape the character of each blend during maturation.
Cellar master Patrice Piveteau oversees a philosophy rooted in distillation on the lees, patient ageing and precise blending. Frapin also holds Haute Valeur Environnementale Level 3 certification, recognising its environmental management. Château Fontpinot XO is a particularly enduring part of the house’s history, first created in 1923.

Château Fontpinot XO is made from 100% Ugni Blanc grown on the Frapin estate in Grande Champagne. The grapes are harvested and pressed, and the juice ferments in tanks to produce the base wine.
Double distillation takes place in traditional Charentais copper pot stills, with the fine lees retained. This contributes aromatic concentration and texture to the eaux-de-vie, providing the foundation for extended ageing.
The Cognac matures slowly in oak barrels in the estate’s dry cellars, including its attic spaces. These conditions concentrate and refine the aromas over time. The mature eaux-de-vie are blended and bottled on the property at 41%, preserving Château Fontpinot’s balance of fruit, complexity and length.
Alcohol: 41%. Bottle size: 70cl. Closure: Natural cork. Vegetarian and vegan.
