Chillable Reds
This is a collection of chillable reds, but using the below guide, you can make any red pleasurable in summer.
Your red wine fridge timetable
These times assume the bottle starts at around 22°C to 24°C and your fridge is set to approximately 4°C to 5°C.
If the bottle has been sitting in a particularly warm kitchen, give it another 10 to 15 minutes.
| Wine style | Ideal serving temperature | Approximate fridge time |
|---|---|---|
| Gamay, Beaujolais, Cinsault | 10°C to 13°C | 60 to 90 minutes |
| Light Pinot Noir, Bardolino, young Valpolicella | 12°C to 14°C | 45 to 60 minutes |
| Barbera, Loire Cabernet Franc, Mencía, juicy unoaked Grenache | 13°C to 15°C | 30 to 45 minutes |
| Cru Beaujolais, structured Pinot Noir, Etna Rosso, Chianti, Rioja Crianza | 14°C to 16°C | 20 to 35 minutes |
| Malbec, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Rioja Reserva, Brunello, Nebbiolo | 16°C to 18°C | 15 to 25 minutes |
These are guidelines rather than strict rules. Your glass is the final judge.
It is also better to begin slightly cooler than necessary. Wine warms quickly once it has been poured, especially when you are drinking outside.
