2024 Chianti Classico 'San Jacopo', Castello Vicchiomaggio
Chianti Classico, Tuscany, Italy
This is bright, classic Chianti Classico with the easy charm of young Sangiovese. Red cherry, cranberry and plum lead the nose, followed by iris, cinnamon, rosemary, bay leaf and a gentle savoury edge. It feels lively and authentic, with enough fruit to be generous, but enough Tuscan bite to keep everything fresh and food-friendly.
On the palate, it is medium-bodied, juicy and well balanced, with red berry fruit, crisp acidity and fine, well-integrated tannins. The finish is fresh and lightly herbal, with a touch of orange peel and spice giving extra lift. A brilliant everyday Chianti Classico for anyone who wants proper Tuscan character without heaviness.

San Jacopo is Castello Vicchiomaggio’s classic Chianti Classico, named after an old farmhouse on the estate. Grown in Greve in Chianti, from vineyards sitting around 255 to 265m above sea level, it captures the estate’s polished but traditional approach to Sangiovese: bright fruit, savoury herbs, gentle oak and the natural freshness that makes Chianti so good with food.
