2006 Carbon Cuvee Bugatti EB02 , Champagne Carbon
Champagne, France
Blanc de Blancs at full throttle.
This is Champagne with real presence, not just because of the dramatic carbon fibre bottle, but because the wine itself has the depth and poise to deserve the spotlight. A 2006 Grand Cru Blanc de Blancs, made from 100% Chardonnay and aged for 12 years on lees, it combines maturity, finesse and that quietly luxurious confidence that only time can bring.Â
The nose is all elegance and slow-building complexity, opening with acacia, toasted brioche, almond and hazelnut before softer notes of yellow stone fruit begin to unfold. On the palate, it feels broad yet beautifully composed, with fine, delicate bubbles carrying flavours of baked pastry, roasted nuts and ripe orchard fruit. There is richness here, certainly, but also freshness, which keeps everything lifted and precise rather than weighty. It feels creamy, polished and wonderfully complete, a champagne with both glamour and grip.
For when: the bottle needs to be as memorable as the moment.
Pairs with: pata negra, pan-fried foie gras, elegant poultry dishes, or simply the kind of evening that deserves something extraordinary.
This cuvée was created as part of Champagne Carbon’s collaboration with Bugatti, specifically tied to the EB.02 Chiron 300+ edition, pairing a design-led, collector-style presentation with a mature vintage Blanc de Blancs from the house’s vinothèque. That combination of extended lees ageing, Grand Cru Chardonnay and striking presentation is what gives the wine its particular appeal: all the theatre of a luxury object, with the substance of serious Champagne underneath.
