2022 Pouilly Fuisse 'Lisa Marie', Domaine Ferrand

Pouily-Fuisse, Burgundy, France

Pale gold in the glass, this Pouilly-Fuissé glows with quiet sophistication. The nose opens with lifted aromas of white peach, citrus zest, and a whisper of fresh mint, all underlined by a subtle mineral edge. On the palate, it’s pure and finely textured with ripe stone fruit wrapped in a delicate chalky frame, with notes of almond and lemon curd gliding through to a long, crystalline finish. Balanced, refined, and effortlessly poised, this is white Burgundy with both energy and grace.

For when: the table’s set, the light’s golden, and you’re cooking something special but simple.
Pairs with: seared scallops, roast chicken with tarragon, or creamy risotto.
If this wine were a feeling, it’d be calm confidence dressed in linen.

Domaine Ferrand is a family-run estate in Solutré-Pouilly, where the Ferrand family has cultivated Chardonnay for over four generations. Their vineyards lie on east- and southeast-facing slopes between 250 and 300 metres above sea level, where the combination of Jurassic limestone and heavy clay soils lends both tension and depth to the wines.

The ‘Lisa Marie’ cuvée, named after the family’s next generation, comes from 45-year-old vines that are cordon-trained and harvested with precision to preserve freshness. Fermented and aged with minimal intervention, it reflects the domaine’s philosophy - to let the land speak softly but clearly through the wine. The 2022 vintage captures that spirit perfectly: bright, mineral, and beautifully balanced, a testament to Pouilly-Fuissé’s timeless allure.

Domaine Ferrand is run by Nadine Ferrand who has managed the estate since 1984. Through her courage, determination and intuition she has developed and transformed the 10.5 hectare vineyard in the heart of the Pouilly Fuissé. In 2012, Nadine was joined by her eldest daughter Marine, the fourth generation to work in the family business. Having worked in the wine industry in the United States, Marine has brought with her innovative ideas while continuing the family philosophy of “expressing Chardonnay with a feminine touch”. Domaine Ferrand holds the Haute Valeur Environmentale (HVE) certification, which officially recognises the environmental performance of winegrowers, including biodiversity conservation, plant protection strategies, managed fertiliser use and water resource management.

The grapes were gently pressed in a pneumatic press and fermented with wild yeasts at low temperatures in stainless steel tanks, to retain the purity of fruit and the nuances of the terroir. Racking, blending and estate bottling took place in September
